Umpire Daryl Hair calls Muttiah Muralitharan for throwing at the MCG on Boxing Day, 1995

The Melbourne Cricket Club manages the Melbourne Cricket Ground, ensuring it remains the leading major events sports stadium in Australia for the benefit of patrons and the public of Victoria generally while recognising its location in major public parklands.

The MCC is extremely conscious of its social and community responsibility with regards to the way it operates the MCG and its other venues.

Water conservation and waste management, in particular, are issues that the MCC is working hard with stakeholders and experts to ensure the club remains a socially responsible stadium manager.

Safety management is also a priority at the MCG, with certification in the Victorian Work Cover Authority’s SafetyMAP system at Advanced level.

The MCG is the only sporting venue in Australia that has been audited by the regulatory authority and accredited for occupational health and safety of its staff and members of the public.
