Two girls and one boy, all from Victoria, were the big winners in the final of the Great Netball Shootout at the MCG on Saturday May 28, 2011.
The Great Netball Shootout is one of a series of initiatives by UGL, supported by the Australasian Railway Association, Alstom, Metro Trains and Skilled Group, to promote career opportunities and diversity in the rail sector.
With the support of national and Victorian netball organisations, netballers of all ages have been encouraged to try their shooting skills in the netball interactive within Game On in the National Sports Museum.
Thousands have participated over the past nine months and each entrant has been provided with a comprehensive kit of information on rail careers.
A total of 117 participants, including several from interstate and regional Victoria, took part in the Final Shootout at the MCG on Saturday.
At the end of six elimination rounds, there were three finalists remaining. The places were decided by two further rounds. The total number of goals counted during Saturday’s shootout was 4,300.
The place-getters were:
First: Sean Benkenstein (aged 12) from New Gisborne, Victoria (Prize - trip for two to France)
Second: Taylor Mawkes (aged 11) from Brighton East, Victoria (Prize - trip for two to Hong Kong)
Third: Hannah Rosenberg (aged 12) from East Bentleigh, Victoria (Prize - trip for two on the Ghan)
Congratulations to all three winners and everyone who participated.
In an earlier initiative, UGL sponsored a classroom of students from 561 Victorian secondary schools to visit the National Sports Museum and undertake a special maths in sport curriculum.
As part of this initiative, students were introduced to the Rail Careers website.
