Smart Auslan

Smart Auslan is a breakthrough in museum accessibility for Deaf and hearing-impaired Australians.

There are hundreds of museums across Australia offering audio tours but now there is a way for Deaf and hearing impaired Australians to gain access to this information through a smart phone!

We are proud to be the first museum to introduce Smart Auslan.

Each year, approximately 150,000 people visit the National Sports Museum and they listen to audio descriptions of iconic exhibitions.

Smart Auslan allows Deaf and hearing-impaired Australians to enjoy the same service.

How Smart Auslan works

Smart Auslan translates museum audio tours into Auslan sign language and captions.

How the Auslan device works

1. Pick up the smart phone at the museum counter or use your own smart phone.
2. Walk to a display and scan the Quick Response code (QR Code).
3. The phone plays the Auslan translation video with captions.
